Secret to being successful at anything! #1

Changing your mindset is the first and most crucial step in achieving true success which is, of course, the main motivation for owning your own business.  It has been said over and over by the most successful men (and woman) in history that you will become what you think about.  This is exactly what Napoleon Hill wrote about in his book “Think and Grow Rich”.  In that book, Mr. Hill mentioned often that he first learned of this principle when he read “As a Man Thinketh” by James Allen and James Allen got the ideas from…the Bible.  So this is not a new concept, by any means.  It is truth, pure and simple.  It has worked for thousands and thousands people, it can work for you…if you let it.

Change your mindset

You must believe in yourself and believe that you deserve to be successful.  I am not talking about deserving in an entitled way, you will have to earn your success.  I am talking about having an understanding that you were meant for greatness.  True success is more than just money.  When a person is truly successful their lives are full of meaning and purpose.  They enjoy rich, meaningful relationships.  They are constantly seeking ways to help others achieve the same level of happiness and financial freedom that they enjoy.  True success is a lot like love.  The more you give to others, the more you get in return.

You must also believe that you are going to be successful.  You need to allow yourself to feel successful right now.  Thoughts of “I would like to make more money” or “someday, I will…” will not get the results you are seeking.  Those are merely wishful thinking and wishful thinking is fun, but it is not the same as a firm belief.  It is a great idea to write your goals down as though you have already achieved them.  Some examples would be, “I have enough money in the bank to care for my needs and the needs of my family for the rest of our lives”, “I constantly give my financial support to causes I care about (be specific and name the causes here)”, “I drive the car of my dreams (again, be specific and name it).  Once you have compiled your statements of wealth, make several copies and put them in places where you will see them several times throughout the day.  Stop and read the list whenever you see it and take a moment to visualize yourself having and doing the things on the list.  Remember to see it as happening now.

You will also need to take some time to examine any negative thoughts you have about yourself or about attaining the wealth you desire.  These are the things that will hold you back.  We all have negative traits and shortcomings, but focusing on these will only cause you to have more of them!  Instead, choose to improve upon yourself one step at a time.  Don’t try to be perfect overnight.  If you find yourself thinking a negative thought, try to change it to a positive.  For example, if you find yourself thinking “I am always late” try changing your thoughts to “I am always on-time” and notice that you will start arriving on-time more often.  If you can’t change the thought to a positive, at least try to neutralize it.  “Yet” is a powerful word that can help you do this.  If you are thinking, “I haven’t made any money at this…” add the word yet to keep the possibilities open.  So you would think “I haven’t made any money at this, yet”.  This is the tactic to use when the thought is already processing, just tack on the word yet and start looking for possibilities.

Changing your mindset equals changing your life.  It really is that simple.  I have done it so I should know.
